Gufi Paintal, well known for his role as Shakuni mama in the epic TV series Mahabharat, died on Monday at a hospital in Mumbai owing to age-related difficulties, according to his nephew Hiten Paintal.
He was 79. The veteran actor was admitted to a hospital in the Andheri suburbs.
“Unfortunately, he is no longer with us. He died in the hospital about 9 a.m. His heart had given up. “He died peacefully in his sleep,” Hiten said to PTI.
Hiten previously told PTI that his uncle was suffering from age-related health concerns.
“He had high blood pressure and heart problems.” He was feeling ill, and this had been going on for a long. Things had deteriorated to the point where we had to admit him to the hospital for observation. He has been hospitalized for seven to eight days. “He was critical at first, but he is now stable,” Hiten told PTI.
Gufi Paintal’s acting credits also include 1980s Hindi films like Suhaag and Dillagi, as well as television dramas like CID and Hello Inspector, but it was his manipulative uncle role as Shakuni mom in BR Chopra’s “Mahabharat” that made him a household figure.
His son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild survive him. Today, around 4 p.m., the final rituals will be performed at a crematorium in suburban Andheri.
